3 Colnagos in the top-15 of Amstel Gold Race

Garcia, Bertizzolo and Magnaldi in the top 15 at Amstel Gold Race

UAE Team ADQ placed three of its girls in the top 15 of the eighth edition of the Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition (1.WWT). Sixth place for Spanish Mavi Garcia, tenth place for Sofia Bertizzolo and fifteenth place for Erica Magnaldi.

After 128.9 kilometres, starting from Maastricht and finishing in Valkenburg, the Emirati team was the only one able to place three of its riders in the top 15 of the Dutch classic.

The race was won by Italian Marta Cavalli of FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine-Futuroscope, who in the final attack surprised a small group that had gained an advantage on the Cauberg and which included Mavi Garcia. In the sprint the Spanish rider finished in sixth place. Further back were Betizzolo and Magnaldi and 26th place for Dutchwoman Maaike Boogaard who worked hard for her teammates. Anna Trevisi and Sophie Wright also made sacrifices for the team.

But in the weekend also the Emirati rider Safiya Alsayegh last night in Dubai took part in the NAS Ramadan Tournament- cycling race, a national night race of 75 km where she finished in tenth place. She won the sprint of the group, behind a breakaway of nine athletes. Safiya tell us about the race: “Wasn’t the best day for my body after a long week of university and not much sleep, which had my body suffering, plus the fatigue. Tried to do my best in the bunch sprint for 10th place, after Dubai Police pro team came in with big performance as a 9 rider team. They broke away and I was left with the peloton for the sprint. I tried many times to breakaway away with them but was impossible with my state of fatigue. Happy to have won the bunch sprint for the open category and help the local team we set up for the race win the Emirati amateur category, which resulted with a win for that category for one of our riders”.
